About Us
For over sixty years, WLPO has been serving listeners in the Illinois Valley. The station is a 1000-watt directional daytime and 500-watt nighttime station. Because power is directional, listeners in some communities may not be able to pick up the AM 1220 signal as well after dark and prior to sunrise. On 6/6/13, WLPO programming began being simulcast on FM103.9. On 12/26/13, recognizing an opportunity to reach even more listeners throughout the day on a new FM frequency, WLPO relaunched as Classic Hits 103.9 WLPO. Current programming retained what many long-time listeners enjoy, like Rod in the Morning, news and weather around the clock, local sports, and added the greatest hits of all time throughout the day and night.
99.3 WAJK signed on as WLPO-FM in December 1964 as a 1000-watt monaural FM station. In 1979 the call letters were changed to WAJK. WAJK plays Today's Best Music--favorite songs from the 90's, 2K and today--featuring artists like Maroon 5, Adele, Bruno Mars, & Pink. WLWF (then WKOT) was added to the group in 1999 and is now, 96.5 The Wolf! You'll hear favorite songs from superstars like Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan...all in long 20-in-a-row Wolf runs.
John Spencer is the President and general manager & Mark Lippert vice-president of sales and marketing for all three stations. Starved Rock Media is the licensee of WLPO, WAJK & WLWF.
